    "Tiger"

For three decades I've created stained glass artworks. Around fifteen years ago I started teaching homeless kids to create them too. Not just simple ones, but big panels (2000 pieces or more) with historical themes.

To date I've worked with over 150 kids and we've made more than 70 panels. Nearly all of these young people are now in school or have jobs.

I'm now doing even more with these kids. With the help of Glass Eye 2000 Enterprise Edition we decided to push the experiment a bit further. We now have a laser cutter and use it to make marquetery and greeting cards. We sell thousands of these cards in stores and build marquetery for my personal customers. Many of the patterns for the cards are taken from my stained glasses pattern books.

Recently, one of my kids thought it would be a great idea to offer cards to people who create stained glass. He thinks these will make great gifts and could even be used for publicity. Based on his idea, here is a Design of the Month for all our friends here, an example of a laser-cut card. My kids love tigers, so they decided on this pattern.

You can see more of our work on my website where cards may be purchased.

    About the artist

    Jean Beaulieu

Jean Beaulieu, artist and creator, painter for over 30 years, has exhibited in a dozen cities worldwide. He started doing stained glass twenty years ago and decided to use the glasswork in the service of a cause dear to him: troubled youth. He is the founder of the MargiArt project which for the last ten years has provided stained glass instruction for these young people. This project inspired him to found les Ateliers Art-Go, an organization that oversees community groups in Québec City, Trois-Rivières, Montréal and eventually Vancouver and Toronto. You are welcome to send Jean an email.
